The aim of the Academy is to provide affordable, high quality dentistry in the heart of Birmingham. Members of the Academy are highly experienced in their field, including Shakir Mughal (Dentist), Teresa Hughes (Hygienist), Martinne Dugmore (Practice Manager) and Denise (Dental Nurse).
Dr Jag Shergill
Dr Jag Shergill qualified in dentistry in 1991 from the University of Birmingham. He is the principal dentist at the The Academy of Birmingham Cosmetic Dentistry in Birmingham. He is highly skilled in all aspects of cosmetic dentistry and treats patients from all over the UK and the world. He has a reputation for consistent, high quality work.
Dr Shergill's particular expertise is in cosmetic smile makeovers, dental implants and cosmetic high speed braces. He enjoys the challenge of taking on complex cases and producing life-changing flawless smiles for his patients. A typical smile makeover may involve a combination of different treatments such as dental implants, crowns, veneers and teeth whitening to give the ultimate celebrity smile. Dr Shergill regularly tutors other dentists, passing on his many years of experience so that they can also offer their patients a high quality service. He also treats other dentists at the practice which is a testament to his high quality dentistry.
He has travelled the world and worked under the tutelage of eminent dental surgeons in London, Marseilles (France), Lisbon (Portugal), Gothenburg (Sweden) and South Africa. He is also one of a few of European dentists that has trained under the tutelage of the presigious Hornbrook group in the USA. Dr Shergill also has an MSc in dental implants from Warwick Medical School.
Outside of work, he spends time on all sports, travelling, watching motor racing, flying helicopters and intends to complete his helicopter training soon and enjoys excessive amounts of socialising.

Dr Sobia Butt
Dr Sobia Butt graduated from the University Of Liverpool dental school in July 2004, with a personal letter of commendation from the head of the clinical dental sciences department, for the excellent treatment of nervous and dentally challenged patients and was amongst the top students to score the highest marks in the paediatric (child dentistry) and behavioural sciences examinations. This has further developed into the field of orthodontics and orthopaedics, taking the latest concepts from the USA under the training of Dr Skipp Truitt, nominated as one of the most influential men in dentistry 2007. Both children and adults may no longer need to have teeth extracted or wear braces if problems are detected and treated early.
Sobia completed her vocational training and trained in dental teeth whitening in 2005. She was selected for Dr Christopher Orrs’ (president of the British academy of cosmetic dentistry) prestigious advanced cosmetic dentistry programme and latest concepts in periodontal soft tissue and disease management programmes all of which she completed in 2006
Using the latest concepts in teeth whitening, shade mapping, porcelain veneers, crowns, Cerec 3D and advanced restorative dentistry Dr Butt is able to achieve the highest quality cosmetic and aesthetic dentistry,
Having covered cosmetic dentistry, Dr Butt then went on the further develop her skills in the rejuvenation of the surrounding head and neck area with the removal of both deep and fine lines and wrinkles to provide a more softened, youthful appearance and the treatment of tension headaches and migraines using only non-invasive and non surgical botox and dermal filler treatments.
